Getting Cactus to Bloom in Wisconsin

kailea

Hi, have a large prickly pear cactus (name unknown)which is result of seed planted from Prickly Pear fruit purchased in grocery store about 4 or 5 years ago. I'm in zone 4 so bring this 4 1/2' monster in every fall and he winters in my living room behind the sofa in North window. I think he's still getting taller. However, will I ever get a bloom from it? (Maybe not because I'm calling it a "him"). Anybody have experience with one of these? Haven't tried wintering it outside although I do have a pot of native prickly pear which blooms every summer and it overwinters outdoors. Any suggestions on what it needs to bloom? (outside of Arizona).
