Photos 'A'

Would any of you like to post pics of your garden (or other photos) alphabetically, just to liven up this forum?

This has been done in other forums, thought I'd try it here.

I'll start with Allium azureum:

That's neat, Julie. Does the next one post a "B" flower or do we have a thread of "A" flowers, another thread of "B", etc?

    Thanks Kathy,

Depending on what forum you're on, people submit photos in different ways. On the Hosta forum, for example, people keep adding to the "A" thread, the "B" thread, etc. The problem with adding to threads is that load time can get lengthy, esp. for dial-up people (like me).

On the Photography forum, people submit their own posts, such as "Assignment A", etc. After a certain amount of time, someone usually starts on the "B" photos. This type of submitting pictures seems to work best.

You can label your post anything you want, such as...
"A for apple". And if we run out of A photos, then start the B photos, and someone comes across a nice opportunity to take a pic of something starting with "A", they can add it later, (out of sequence).

There are NO RULES on how to do this.
I'm just trying to liven up this WI forum a little.

Let's see those "A" photos, people!

Ok, maybe I'm being dense here, but how do you embed a photo into your message? (I've done it in forums with galleries, or that otherwise have a link to an off Gardenweb page), but not into the message itself.

you aren't being dense at all, Kathy, Garden Web doesn't really make it intuitive.

    What you do is this:

Upload a picture to a hosting site. This can be your own webspace provided by your ISP or one of the free hosting sites like photo bucket.

If you use a free site like photo bucket the advantage is they provide the syntax to use to embed the image (They offer 3 options, use the one beginning with a href). If you host on private (but publicly accessible) web space you have to know the syntax.

    Here is the syntax:

    [img src="http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g56/2000worms/DSCF0748small.jpg";]
    You have to replace [ with and then the image shows up like this: {{gwi:4056}}

My apologies for the bug porn ;-)

    Clever, Kathy!

    And gorgeous!

    More "A" pics, people?
(Looks like threads will work, as long as people downsize their files).

Sorry, Julie. That pic must have taken awhile for you to see. I'll try to remember to make the files smaller.

No, Kathy, the file is fine! My pics show up compressed anyway, for faster loading. When I want to see the original, I Right click on the photo, then click on "show original image", and the original file loads. Your photo was clear enough, that I didn't have to see the original image.

    Great close-up of the Columbine!

Justaguy, one more time for us "higher density" types.
I have only been able to link to photos on photobucket, not embed. Is it a file size issue or am I typing it into the option link URL incorrectly?

Here is a link that might be useful:

    Daddylonglegs,

    Beautiful garden!
All you have to do to embed your photo into your message is to click on the HTML tag under your photo. This will copy the correct code. Then paste the code into your message.

Let's see some more of those beautiful pics!

OK, thanks for the help! Actually quite simple.
Took a small 1M picture just to test this out.

    Anemone Blanda.

Love 'em. They bloom for a month in the spring.
