Pruning trees

When is the best time of year to thin out a young Redbud tree?
Also, I have an old Serviceberry tree with a dead branch. Can that be taken off now, or should I wait til Fall or Spring?
Thanks in advance

John

RE: Pruning trees

Dead branches can be removed anytime. Best general pruning time is March before buds swell, but you could do it now. There are advantages now in that you can see what the leafed out tree looks like.

RE: Pruning trees

Thanx, TJ
I'll prune the Juneberry this week and wait til Spring on the Redbud. I think that little tree has some interesting lines.
