Lilac varieties

Hi,
I am totally clearing a side lotline between two northwestern Wisconsin homes now dominated mostly by 12-foot chokecherry and honeysuckle bushes. There are also a few lilacs and other unknown greenery in there. I also plan to cut out some aging/declining flowering crab and mountain ash, leaving behind only 2 medium-sized oaks, one near each corner of the house.
I want to get a nice straight north-south hedgerow between the houses, situated about 20 feet apart.

I was at Walmart recently and saw they have 50 percent off what the attached card says is a "common purple lilac" or "Syringa Vulgaris." It does not say what variety these plants are, but at only $3.50 per plant what is your opinion of Walmart lilacs. These seem like an inexpensive way to get the lilac hedge I want.
