Patches of Dirt

My lawn seems to be an active mine field during the spring and late summer months. I have these little mounds that appear in the lawn and all I can figure out is that it is some type of gas escaping creating pockets of mounds. They are around 8" to 12" round mounds that resemble a mine field sometimes. Anyone have any ideas on what these are from ?

I never would have thought of them but I do not believe it is "Pocket gophers". I would think that they would be doing it all the time and this happens like 2 or 3 times per yr in almost the same location. I do know that it is Not related to my "field"-meaning septic field . Thanks any ways.
