I think I just found a Rhododendron maximum here in wisconsin. I found it down by the river/stream that runs across the bottom of our campus here in Platteville WI. Could this be possible?

It has large flower buds, large green leaves, with a little underside. The newer growth is greenish yellow, but ridgid, and there are little brown pubescent markings on that new stem.

Both plants were a few feet tall. they might be around two and a half to three feet in height.

Why wouldn't it be possible? Perhaps a professor, homesick for the Appalachians, planted it there.

Wow thanks for the link tj. I found a new shrub I have to collect the seed to plant in my woodlands...... I love GW barb

We think it is the maximum. I'll have to wait until spring to see what the bloom looks like.

I posted over on the seed forum and asked for some seed. I See it can be grown here and likes the shade. I need some shrubs for a woodland garden. We have invasive honeysuckles I have been removing for two years now. What a pain. I am glad you posted this thread. Thanks Barb
