Tricyrtis virus

| Sorry, I'm usually on the hosta forum or the GA gardener forum but ran across this on Hallson's garden forum this morning. I did purchase some of these plants from Hallsons last year.
Read Chris' article, as he details the whole process there and the varieties of tricyrtis affected.

This situation may not effect you or you may choose to do nothing- I'm on the fence, til further notice!

| Brenda, thanks for the info. I notice Lightning Strike (which I have ordered) was one of the most infected, but it doesn't show up in the flowers. I wonder if the implication is that the variegation on the leaves is due to a virus. |

Hi Brenda, I'll be on the fence for now as well. Some Abutilons, Menthas, Camellias, Farfugiums and more are grown specifically for their virus-induced variegation. Not to mention, viral Tulips have been cultivated for hundreds of years capitalizing on the flower color effects of the virus they carry. Nothing new there but kudos to Chris for being a responsible nursery owner. I'm going to keep mine for now. If I hear any news about it becoming harmful I'll re-think it. Laura |
