Please help my butchered bleeding heart...

Hello,

This is my first post, so thanks in advance for your help!

While moving some plants around in our yard, my husband accidentally sheared the top off of a bleeding heart that hadn't come up through the mulch yet. The plant has sentimental value because it came from the property where we were married. I know that they can be divided, but can it come back from having the top cut off? It just has these open, cut off stems and the roots are intact. I can post a picture later if you need to see the extent of the damage.

If anyone can set my mind at ease, or give me any tips to help it survive, I would be so grateful. I really want to save this one. Thanks!

It depends on how far advanced coming up your plant was. The plant should send up new shoots in a while. Replant for now. When I did something similar only a few shoots came up in July but by the next year it was fine. You might go ahead and post the picture.
