Late snow!???

| I am wondering just how hardy my native woodland plants are. My solomons seal are showing spikes about half inch out of the ground ans I am guessing the Jacks are on the rise also. We had four inches of snow fall and melt with continued below freezing temps each evening. I also have astilbe, bleeding hearts, ferns, etc I am worried about. What is the prognosis on my garden? I will be so sad if I lose me woodland garden. |

| All of these plants should handle temperatures into the mid 20's F, maybe even lower for short periods just fine. The snow is beneficial to plants if air temps get really cold, it insulates anything in and under the snow and keeps the plants around 32 F. The only problem with late snow is that it sometimes crushes delicate plants with its weight. |
