If they are brown and crinkly, definietly dead looking, I would cut them back. If they just look dark and withered (which many of my stuff looks like right now) I would probably wait and see what happens. They may recover. They might not bloom this year, but they should still live to bloom next year.

I would leave them. Wait and see what happens when the weather FINALLY warms. This has been such an unusual spring/winter etc. Actually a horrible one!

Mine took a beating in the wind and cold and some branches either broke or withered away. Small branches are now leafing out from the base with a few very tiny flowers. I don't know whether the branches will grow taller before it gets too warm for the plant. It is definitely alive, though.

Mine are Mr yuck also.

Mine withered and was mush. Then it put out new shoots. I picked away all the withered foliage. It's looking good again now. Lots of new growth.
