Help nurse my dogwood back to health

I have a large white dogwood tree that has something wrong with it. Each year it produces it's leaves and some flowers but then shortly thereafter the leaves turn brown, shrivel up and die. The tree is about 30 feet high and sits beside our driveway where it constantly drops its dead leaves. I'd hate to get rid of it but the mess it makes is getting to me. I've heard of a fungus that attacks the dogwood and that it's difficult to get rid of. Any ideas? I live in Vancouver BC fairly high up with alot of rain. Thx
