Looking for source of wildflowers

Posted by myrtle_59 w PA zone 6 (My Page) on

I have a shady (partial shade) bank behind my house that I am trying to turn in to a woodland garden. I am looking for a catalog or local (south of Pittsburgh) source of native spring flowering plants such as bloodroot, dutchman's breeches, sqirrel corn, Virginia bluebell, trillium, jack in the pulpit, solomon's seal ....

Can anyone suggest an internet source you have had good experience with?

Thanks.

They don't have a website, but this company in McMinnville, TN will send a paper catalog upon request. Name, mailing address & phone # is on the link below.
I believe they have all of the plants you mentioned and more.
All plants are shipped bareroot, but I have never had a problem establishing them.

There is a place called Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve (I think I got the name right) near Pgh that sells wildflowers. I haven't been there myself, but hear good things about it.

Thanks Rb and ladyslppr!

I took a chance and ordered from VIola wildflower in TN. I think a field trip is in order to Bowmans.

I am partial to mail order places that have a website but I will file away the McMinnville one to give to a friend so does snail mail.

Try ebay--I have purchased lots of trillium, hepatica and even ladyslippers. I have not been disppointed by the quality and the price is good.
