Something ate my columbine flowers

I planted two wild columbines. Initially both seemed unhealthy in the plug with reddish leave, but after planting it into the ground, the red went way and started flowering. Unfortunately, someone ate the flowers on one of the columbines. What could it be? Rabbits? Squirrels?

rabbits, or groundhogs. Or deer. When you have a woodland garden, that's what you get occasionally. Try scattering the area with black pepper, it won't hurt anything and the groundhogs don't like it.
