| I got a free plant from a friend's garden. She does not know what it is. I've recently seen the same plant in a few Chicago area forest preserves, especially in areas where there is habitat restoration work going on and many native plants getting re-established, so I'm wondering if this one is a native.
The example in the picture is growing in an oak savanna habitat (partial sun). It's about 12" wide and tall, with dried flower stems from last season that are about 24" tall. I don't know if it's reached full size for the season, as it's only started growing in the last few weeks. On this plant and the mystery free plant I've got (currently sitting in a pot), newer leaves have a green tone, while older ones have a blue-green tone with lighter veining and a hint of burgundy around the leaf edges. The leaf coloration on the older leaves is similar to Japanese painted fern. Any idea what this is? |

| Look at pictures of Geum canadense for comparison. |

| Agree it looks like Geum canadense. You often see it increase in number where there is disturbance. |
