| I did it once with one about 4-5 feet tall. It survived fine. Pays to be careful. It has a significant tap root, so dig deep around it. In my case, the redbud was growing to the west of a big sugar maple, with a fertile garden immediately adjacent to it further west. The tap root, to get moisture and fertility, took a sharp turn to the west, away from the maple and toward the garden, about 2-3 feet down. As a result, because we couldn't see what it was doing, we snapped the tap root off below the turn. Got as much root as we could, transplanted a big ball, and it grew. Good luck. |
