I'm a zone up from you (or is it down?) I'm in zone 4. The full shade plants that look good for me all summer are celadine poppies, lamiastrum Herman's Pride, christmas and Japanese painted ferns. Lamium can get ratty, but if I cut it down, it fills right in. Same with sweet woodruff. Blue lobelia, turtlehead, and toad lily bloom late summer and can hide some of the shaggy foliage of others. I'd guess that the shade isn't the problem with the hosta size, but lack of moisture (or they may just be hostas that don't get very big).

Geranium macorrhizum or G. Ã cantabrigiense would do well in the dry shade spot.

Thanks for the suggestions! I will definately get a patch of that geranium and some sweet woodruff/turtlehead...would solomons seal live in a dark shady but moist environment? Also, do lily of the valley stay green until fall? This woodland gardening is harder than I thought LOL

I honestly think that the hostas are just needing more sun, so I won't plant anymore of those.

Solomon Seal (polygonatum) love moist shade, as does False Solomon Seal (smilacina racemosa). My lily of the valley starts looking ratty around July.

The two geraniums that "cpg" mentioned look wonderful all year, both great groundcover types with evergreen foliage. They will spread to form large patches. I find that my hostas will take shade, but are not happy in severe drought under trees. I agree with "mk" on her comments. Some of the native asters and goldenrods may do well in your location, blue-stem goldenrod, white wood aster, blue wood aster, etc.
