Do you have experience with those shrubs in wet shadowy spots?

Hi! I want to plant some shrubs as part of a screen around a hamac. Some of the spots can be quite wet in Spring and after a good rain since a channel passes nearby. I have gather from litterature a list of candidates that, in theory, could grow at least 6 feet (1.8 meter) in such conditions (in zone 4).

Unfortunately, information is often contradictory about how much shade or wetness they can take.

Is anyone of you have experience with one of these in similar condition? Is there some that you would strongly suggest? or advice against?

- Alnus vivialis crispa

- Alnus rugosa

- Alnus glutonisa

- Berberis thubergii

- Cornus racemosa

- Cornus amomum

- Cornus obliqua

- Ilex verticillata

- Viburnum lantana

- Viburnum lantanoÃ¯de

- Viburnum sargenti

Diana,
I don't know much about your environment. Have you thought about using something like a Viburnum, American Cranberry? Might be useful to contact a native plant society and see what they recommend. Cornell Univ extension is also a good source for info. Good luck to you...

You should be fine with what you have picked - I would stay away from the non natives such as barberry (very invasive) and some of the non native viburnums some of the dogwoods may require a little drier or upland to keep there feet a little drier - I beleive your the one that wanted the grey dogwood from me I'll keep my eyes open for some seeds for you - you will need both male and female Ilex plants
