 o
cats and poison ivy

I once was told that I could've gotten poison ivy from petting my cat.... anyone know if this can happen... i know the reaction is caused by the urisiol (sp?) oils in the leaves of the plant, but can a cat really get it on its fur and subsequently transfer it to a person? I've had cats all my life, petted and hugged them and never got poison ivy/oak before. Unfortunately we live in an area where the plants are plentiful so now I am more concerned.

Yes, true for cats and dogs. You can also get it from someone else's clothing that had contact with it. Basically, once the oil gets on a surface, it can irritate anyone that touches that surface.

Now the question might be - how likely is it that your cat will pick up some on his/her fur?
