Hope I am in correct forum. I have a creek with woods around it. This plant is growing on edge of these woods (where sunnier, I suppose). There are 1000's. Some are as big as 3 feet or maybe higher. Any ideas?

Very interesting. The leaves remind me of elderberry, but not the stalk!

I wonder if it could be Great Angelica (Angelica atropurpurea).

Certainly looks like Angelica to me, and it sounds like your woods edge would be the kind of place it would thrive. Couldn't find a good link to send that clearly shows all the parts in your pictures, but if you go to Google Images and search "Angelica atropurpurea" some pictures will show the leaves, some the stems, etc, clearly.

yes-- after googling, I believe Angelica Astropurpurea is the answer. Thank you!!
