Moving Trillium grandiflorum seedlings

| Hi guys I have a pot full of Trillium grandiflorum seedlings, this being their second year in leaf and they are getting crowded. The pot is one of the large ones shrubs arrive in.
Would any of you people have tips on moving the seedlings. I know that fall is the best time but I fear losing some to overcrowding. |

| Since they are in a pot they should be easy to find when you want to move them (unlike when they are in a big patch of ground). I would not worry about losing them due to overcrowding between now and fall. And I think you'd be fine moving them once they start going dormant in late spring if you'd prefer. |

| I would gently separate and move them now to wherever you have planned for them. They will be fine....very hardy...hard to kill. |

| I would reinforce what shadeyplace said about gently separating the seedlings. I have moved quite a few from our woods to the garden and I find the stems break off easily, so I always try to take them with soil around the roots. Good luck! |

| I dig a hole not too near the plants (perhaps 8" away", but deep. Then I reach in with my hands and feel for the little corms. Once I know where and how deep they are, I can loosen the soil under them and move them out. |
