We're building on a 2 1/2 acre lot that was mostly wooded (1 3/4 acre) and we intended to leave most of it. The trees were mainly doug fir (40-60') and alder. Our island is windy and 70-80 mph storms aren't rare. Our wind zone is 100 mph. Well starting last November and lasting through February we had a series of storms with winds exceeding 90. Lots of fir came over roots and all and many alder just snapped. Many landed on our designated building site. We had the state forester come out and evaluate the situation. It was a hard decision but we cleared 3/4 acre. Our plan is to start replanting this autumn, trees/shrubs/goundcover, and finish the planting next spring. We are planning a Robert Hart type "Forest Garden" and there won't be any fir or alder or any other 30'+ trees. Our early estimate is that this is going to take 300 or more plants counting both trees and shrubs. With my wife's ag business we are able to buy wholesale and in the past have used Lawyers Nursery. But in order to have as much variety as possible we're trying to find other nurseries that sell these plants as seediling in bundles. Any suggestions? Tom
