I can only speak to the cimicifuga which sat idle barely growing an inch in my shade garden (early a.m. sun for 2 hours there and a scant burst of late afternoon sun.) I moved it down into the full sun perennial bed, in back row hiding behind some mid-size plants and it flourished! It went from 8 inches tall to 3-4 ft and blooms are lovely, scented wonders atop the maroon foliage.

I'll have to run get the tag tomorrow and note the exact variety, but I like it so much I bought two more plants also in the back of the full sun bed.

Best of luck on your new plants. Can you ask at a local nursery or Master Gardener clinic for their recommendations?

I took a look in the book "The New England Wild Flower Society Guide to Growing and Propagating Wildflowers". It lists Canada Lily (Lilium canadense) as needing sun to light shade, moist to wet acidic soil.

I'm also including the link to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. From there, you can choose Explore Plants, then Native Plants DB, and then search by common or scientific name. After you've gotten to the plant detail, you can choose the tab for growing conditions. Their details tend to be close to but not exactly the same as what I find in the book I mentioned. I've found the book's detail to be closer to what I've experience in the garden, but the web-site includes more plants, and has some other good features such as being able to search by what's native to a state.

Thanks Lori and Poochella, I have that book out of the library too. I bought the cimicifuga at Garden in the Woods so I may ask them. Good to know it can take more sun because the place I wanted to put it was with the lilies in a 4 hr sun situation. Thanks for the link Lori.
