I might be mistaken but I believe cross bow is the formulation of glyphosphate ( the active ingredient in round up) for use in wetland areas. Phragmites, purple loosestrife etc.
With poison ivy roundup works but you will need a few applications. And you will need to keep a sharp eye out for new plants as the birds eat the berries and plant the seeds.

Crossbow is not specifically formulated for use in wetlands. It is in the same classification as RoundUp and other herbicides use of which should be 'cautiously'.

The links attached will give you some idea of what the cumulative wisdom is regarding Crossbow and it's use. Some links will indicate that it can be used on poison ivy, but the collective opinions seem to be that it will not do a better or worse job than RoundUp.

Thanks for info. I found out that Crossbow* is an Austrialian product and herbicide used to control blackberry, commom bracken, gorse and sweet briar. It's very strong and contains two activie ingredients (Metsulfuron-Methyl and Picloram). Don't know if I want to try this stuff but wondered if anyone has used it. I'm used to using RoundUp, but this stuff sounds more powerful and I don't want to kill all vegetation. Thanks much...HealingPaws

Just to set the record straight, Crossbow in the United States is a combination product of 2,4-D ester and triclopyr ester, two selective herbicides. No glyphosate or Roundup in it, and the mode of action is completely different. No picloram, no metsulfuron methyl either. It is typically used for non-grass brushy weeds that are difficult to control with other herbicides. Both of the ingredients in its formulation are ester forms, meaning they are oil based and have a greater chance for volatilization and off target effects than some herbicides, such as Roundup, particularly in warm weather.

I have horses grazing near an area that has had weeds treated with Cross Bow. I am wondering how long will I need to keep my horses out of those Cross Bow treated areas?
