Maple tree help...

| My Maple (not sure on what kind, it came up on it's own in a wash tub planter and was planted about 6 months ago in the ground). It is about 8 ft tall now and having this issue with the new growth. It comes out nice and green... and then turns to mush and dies! The new buds, 80% of them are doing this. It keeps re-sprouting around where this is happening and it seems to be making it "bush out" a little more. I'm not over or under watering it... we've been getting regular rains this summer so far and the temps are often in the upper 90's. It's out in full sun if that matters. I am not fertilizing it or anything, but do have some pine bark around it. Any ideas???
Here's a couple pics of it...

| Sorry Jay, can't help you but I hope someone comes along with an answer because I have the same problem on a much smaller transplant that came up along my driveway. It's earliest growth was nibbled by deer in March and all the growth since has shriveled and dropped off. |
