Oconee bells with round petals?

I've lived in my home in Northeast TN for several years, but just noticed a plant flowering next to my driveway. I'm trying to identify it. Everything I have read leads me to believe it is oconee bells - except that the flower has round petals instead of fringed. I've not been able to find anything about a variety without the fringed petals. Anyone know what it might be? (Sorry I don't have a picture, it's dark out - and I'm not sure how to post one yet!)
