Blueberry vaccinium corymbosum

Hello all.

I was just at the garden center, and while waiting at check out I saw some interesting plants that someone decided not to buy.

They're blueberries.

I admit, it was a bit impulsive (but also kismet), as I did want to eventually plant some.

According to the instructions, they like sun to part shade.

On one of the sites i looked at, it said they HATE shade.

I also see that they like acidic soil.

The northwest corner of the house (and in front) are some pine and cedar.

I would consider this a shade area - dappled morning light, then about an hour of late afternoon sun.

Would this be a bad place for them?

The south side of the house is where the raspberries grow.

would the blueberries like a similar location?

also, should i protect the plants initially? I don't mind sharing with the wildlife, but i read that deer like the leaves.

any pointers appreciated.

Thanks.
