Shade AND hillside

Posted by jschiff GA (My Page) on

My front yard is mostly straight uphill and wooded. I presently have junipers, but they seem to be dying (I am treating them for Phomopsis). I am very concerned about erosion if I lose my junipers. What else could I plant on a steep hillside in mostly deep shade? I have mostly poplar trees with a few pines.

RE: Shade AND hillside

I have used native creeping red fescue grass effectively on a shady slope. I have also heard a number of reccommendations for shade including, Green and Gold, blood root, may apple, virginia creeper (vine). You could also try a thicketing type shrub or maybe Ohio Spiderwort?
