misidentified tree needs clarification

I bought a sapling at an arboretum in Chapel Hill, NC last spring (2007). I brought it home calling it an oak leaf hydrangea. However, its leaf is more like the one-dimensional picture of a marijuana leaf you see on tshirts, etc. One difference - my plant has 5 leaves on one stem and the marijuana pic shows 8. My plant also blooms a large, five distinct tear-drop shaped petals in a bold coral pink color. It dies back every year like a hydrangea is grows quite tall, requiring support. My plant is planted in the wooded part of my yard and is about 4-5 feet tall. Can anyone help with some ideas as to its identification?

Perhaps it is Hibiscus coccineus.

Here is a link that might be useful: scarlet rose mallow
