Sent this out to a few individuals, but no luck so far, looks like giant dandelion leaves and thick purple stem or stalk.About one inch in diameter.Stem looks hollow like a poison hemlock or a hollyhock stem when broken. It is about four feet tall so far.would have been taller, but we moved it to a different location. So I think it got shocked...no flower on it yet.will try a few pictures..Tom in Pa.

Perhaps a type of Sonchus?

esh ga, looked at some google pictures of Sonchus, the ones that I looked at didn't seem to be a match.I also looked at prickly lettuce, the plant was similar in height and similar in leaves but no prickly stuff anywhere to be found, plus, I think the leaves of the lettuce seemed to be more cut and lighter in color and skinnier with whitish looking vein down thru the middle of the leaf.Hope it flowers before it dies, maybee that will help in its identification..thanks ...Tom

Wild Lettuce, Lactuca canadensis? Related to Prickly Lettuce, but native and without the prickles. Not the most desirable native plant, perhaps, but otherwise harmless.

Here is a link that might be useful: Wild Lettuce on www.illinoiswildflowers.info
