Where is it? City/state, wild/garden
How tall?
Any flowers or fruit?

"It's in the upper Hudson valley, NY, in a wooded area. I haven't seen any flowers or fruit. It stands about 6-7 feet high. It's the only one of its kind in the area."

It reminds me of a young sassafras.

If it is a sassafrass, which would have been my first guess also, you can tell by the root beer smell of a broken branch or leaf.

Thanks - I didn't remember to scratch the branch and sniff - it is indeed a sassafras.

Hi there, I was wondering.... what is the best way to propagate a Sassafras? Our neighbor has a field, and at the end of it there is a long hedge of Sassafras hedges. These hedges produce berries, I am guessing August to Sept, from my field guide. (Eastern trees) by George Petrides. But, I am wondering if digging up a small plant would be better?
