The stems won't root, however the bulb (corm) remaining in the ground should send up a new shoot in the spring. The plant may be a little smaller next year but since this happened late in the year it shouldn't suffer too much. If you want to try growing some from seed you just need to clean the flesh from the seed and direct sow into the garden. Many sources say it takes two years for them to come up, but in my experience you can get some that send up a small leaf the first year.

If you decide to harvest the seeds, use plastic gloves when removing the pulp. The chemicals in the pulp can cause numbness in your fingers if you don't.

Elgie,I have planted many seeds without removing the outer coating and they also did very good ,most as Lycopus said came up the first year with a small set of leaves.I just took a trowel and removed a little dirt put some seeds in and covered them up.Good luck either way
