I have gardened all of my adult life. We live in south Ga. Zone8. We moved to a new home on 10 acres mostly woods with long leaf yellow pines. I know nothing about woodland gardens. Can anyone suggest pictures on the web or books so I could get some idea of what to do. Here are some of the pictures of my back yard and woods. Thanks

Try The American Woodland garden by Rick Darke. Enjoy!

I just found a link for the Georgia Native Plant society on the web. Here it is:

What a beautiful site/sight!

In addition to the books suggested, do you have any botanical gardens nearby that have woodland gardens? On a visit to the demonstration gardens at one of our state universities I discovered some lovely woodland gardens ... and I find that actually walking through the garden gives me a better feel that stays with me longer, and gives me more ideas, than any photographs. That same university also has a spring plant sale in which much of the plant material is native and all is particularly well-suited to our region. Just another resource you might want to be on the lookout for.

P.S. I'm new to this forum as well. Don't know why I didn't think to stop in before. We have a small (50x150) suburban lot but in a wooded area, so I do think I'll be visiting regularly.

What a beautiful backyard.I try to get my ideas and plant materials from local examples of pristine woodland areas.A garden is an area untrammeled by man.
