?? transplanting Quacking Aspen

| I am wondering if anyone has ever transplanted Aspens? I have a few small saplings growing in the ditch that surrounds my property and would like them saved and moved closer to my house where I can nurture them. I will wait until fall, but is there anything I need to know before I dig? |

| Aspen shoots are usually attached to the mother plant underground. If the plant you dig up does not yet have roots it will probably not survive. I like to cut the runner from the mother plant and leave the shoot in place for another year. Then transplant it. The runner from the mother plant will be between the old tree and the new tree. Just sever it with a spade. If the new tree has roots, they are easy to transplant. |

| They definitely had roots, but looked horrid a few weeks after I moved them. Spring is here and I should know soon if they are dead or not. |
