Plant ID

A friend texted this photo to me, wondering if I could I. D. this plant for him, but I could not. This was seen in far northern Michigan, near a river, in a shady spot. I asked if that was a blossom or a fruit on it and he said 'um... Both?' I have no idea what he meant by that. Does anyone have any idea what this is?

Received an answer on the plant ID forum... it's a Trillium fruit! I had never seen the fruit before, only the flowers, and the leaves were kind of raggedy so I'd missed the similarity. Thanks!

Here in NC T. undulatum needs acidic soils and fairly high altitudes. Too hot in the Piedmont for me to grow them here. They are beautiful! I think the seed capsule looks like a cherry on top.
