bats in the car

| OK, now I'm totally down w/ bats flying around and eating bugs and whatnot. However, I'm not really keen on opening the back of my car and finding a bat sleeping in the space between the door and body.
He's been there before. DH opened my car the other day after we were away for a week, and a bat flew out into his face. Today, luckily, he just sat there and squeaked at me. I don't know what I would have done, first thing in the morning w/o even finishing my coffee yet.
This is a subaru forester tailgate door.
Other than finishing the garage projects and parking the car inside, does anyone have any ideas on how to discourage bats from sleeping in the car? Ideas that still let me use the doors (i.e., taping the crevices not really a good option.).
Help? |

| Well.... if he wakes up one morning in Poughkeepsie he won't be doing it again. I guess I'd be tempted to take him for a ride to a nice rural area and then open the tailgate. |

| I've got an old farmhouse. Place is loaded with bats. They get in from the smallest spaces. I keep a long handled butterfly net on the back porch now for bat removal. Mostly it's in the spring and early summer when the young ones are moving out on their own and get confused. Once they have a clue they stay out in the old attached barn. You could put a few bat houses out back someplace so they find a more comfy place to stay other than your car. |

Like the old bat in the farmhouse :) says..'bats get confused'..I get one or two a week, 'sleeping over' up in my breezeway, between the house and garage. I've two bat houses posted in trees. no bats, tho the local swallows seem to like the houses fine. The bats seem to prefer my neighbors abandoned barn better. I also have a Subaru Forrester, no bats in the car yet. Maybe in a couple of years when Subaru finally comes out with the quieter hybrid version i'm waiting for :) What i'm curious about...how do they get in the car in the first place?? Do you not shut the car doors upon exiting or something?? |
