poison ivy , oak or something

I am in misery from the insides of my arms and out , and legs.I was determined to tackle the vines growing on our fence down by the creek because it looked so shabby and I remember as a kid not being allergic to ivy. I have tried benedryl - spray and cream - pills at night - eladel, caladryl, some cream called stop itch, hydrocortosone cream, nothing works. I am in constant misery except when gardening...(go figure) Anybody got any home remedies that might work?

Running hot tap water over the affected area as hot as you can take it can relieve the itch long enough to get back to sleep. Sometimes very cold water helps also. I recently tried liquid benadryl (you rub it on the area) and it gave good temporary relief. I think cortaid has a relatively new product out but I have not tried it yet. After my two worst exposures I went to the doctor and got a cortisone shot which was very effective both times.
