apple trees surrounded by poison ivy

I have a really great wild apple tree on the edge of my woods, but it is surrounded by poison ivy. Any ideas on how to harvest the apples without getting the rash?

Wear long sleeves and pants and gloves and when you're finished throw them in the wash and take a shower right away. Try not to touch the clothes much. If you're in a car, put towels on the seats. The rash is because of oil in the plant parts and you don't want to transfer that oil to other things that you might touch later.
