I know this is a longshot, and my info is incomplete - I was visiting my daughter in N Virginia and her back yard is totally woods. She has one bush which she asked me to identify, and I could not. It had smooth green bark with white stripes running longitudinally; leaves were dark green and shiny, and I believe opposite pairs; it had a red fruit the sizze of a small grape, outer surface with spines which were not sharp, and this fruit opened into quadrants each with a red berry. The bush was only about four feet tall and rather sparse. Any ideas?.....Elder
