The varietial names are synonyms for Quecus alba. Both names were published in Castanea 25(4):125 in 1960. Diagnosis by A.L. & M.C. Pickens. Neither of the taxon were accepted by most authorities. Subsequently published Manuals on trees, that I have, do not list them. A search of the Family: Fagaceae. Genus: Quercus, in the Flora of North America, Vol. 3, also did not turn up a mention of any varieties, only natural hybreds with other Quercus species. The proposed variety names are curious though, one yellow, one blue. Wonder which part of the flower (or fruit) that depicts? Rb |

| Thanks Razor for clear that up for me. I just wondering because it was listed at plants.usda.gov site. |
