Can you post a picture or even say what location in your state that you found them?

You might try looking up pictures of "Tipularia discolor", a single leaved native orchid that comes up in the fall.

I live in the area of Greensboro N.C. We just moved here about one year ago. I have been trying to clean up the woods, and try to see what native plants I can find. I also found a red spider lily, different ferns.and this plant.
I look up the name that you said and I really believe that is the plant. Looks just lke it. One leaf was all it had
Thanks
Maryann

We have a very active NCNPS chapter in the Triad area of Greensboro. Email me, and I am sure some of us can come by to help identify things if you would like that. And your plant does sound like Tipularia. Welcome to Greensboro!
