need suggestions

I have a cousin who loves woodlandsy plants and I am wanting to get her one for her birthday thats coming up. Well, I know little about woodland gardens and there are a few problems with choosing what plant. She keeps all her plants in her room and she has only one window that is already full of plants, so what I get her can't need much sunlight. Also it cannot be very large. If it is possible, I would also like it to have flowers of some kind. Nontoxic is prefered, however it is still an option depending on what parts are poisonous. Thanks for any suggestions.

The idea that popped into my head first wasn't a plant but plant grow lights. That way your cousin can have more plants - something I'd want desperately if I could only have houseplants. Lighting can range very widely in price but there are lower price options if you look for them. If you are handy, there are even more possibilities.

That said, ferns look woodsy and like indirect light. Greenhouses usually have a number of different indoor fern varieties. Ask the staff for their suggestion of what they have.

That is a great idea! i think i might do that. Do you know where i might find some of these lights for a reasonable price?

Hmmm....Your local garden places are going to be stocking all manner of seed starting supplies (lighting is one of them!) and so you could check what is available locally. Save shipping cost that way. As far as what you can order, it has been a while since I looked so I really can't say who is best. But all the garden supply and seed vendors are going to sell some form of lighting.

You could ask in the Houseplant or Growing Under Lights forums. I'm sure there would be more help there.

I hope this helps!
