Any black-eyed Susan ought to fill the bill--black and gold on one flower. Of course, they are, I think, Baltimore or Maryland's flower because of the Preakness (or vice versa). Maybe some gaillardias--same color combo.

Some sunflower varieties should fit the bill, and how about gazanias. And don't have some golden tulips black centers?

I just saw a Ball Publishing catalog yesdterday that has an entire book on black plants, by Elizabeth Platt. (Interesting typo in the catalog changes her last name to Black.)

You should be able to Google further info on this book or find it at Ball Publishing.

Also, black elephant ears are a good contrast.

Forgive me, Katy, I can't resist. After the world champion New England Patriots showed Peyton Manning a thing or two last night, and with the showdown next weekend, maybe you'd better plan an article on the Patriots' red, white and blue colors! :)

Thank you - perhaps I will send a copy to Foxboro or rewrite it to fit the red/white/blue which surely is considerably easier than black and kinda orange.

The Steelers are a good team and I know things will go Pittsburgh's way soon. Of course, we are happy in Boston but with this unending snow, instead of garden plans, people are painting Patriots slogans on the snowbanks along the street.
