Cold Hands In The Warm Dirt

georgeiii

I put my hands into some warm dirt today

rubbed it twix my fingers

and enjoyed the bright sunshine

but MY GARDENÂS A MESS

I havenÂt been back there all winter

not even to let the dogs out

So now I stand here

watching the dogs, munch the last snow

Well out came some palm trees, a Tangerine or two

IÂve got snowflake Aralia to contrast to the snow

Then I got to repotting, things got bigger even in winter

I got some trees now I kid you not

Just from the supermarket that I didnÂt throw away

I got seeds from a Car-em-blo-la

now thereÂs a word to try and rhyme

I got 18 seedlings about 8" high

I cut one up to decorate a cake

mimosa trees grow as weeds round here

yet for 5 summers I grew one

now itÂs big enough to provide shade for me

itÂs only in a bucket but I can take it in and out

This is the start of my garden of Zen

a place I can come and dance

in the light

in the middle of the night

Excuse me, itÂs just my urge to create

to take pleasure in the sprouting of a seed

to wave my hands before me

guess the pictures will tell

pictures only my will can see

standing there with the soil twit my fingers

ideas in my head
