I've known for about a year that the business I own needs to be closed this summer. We're in the process of doing that now, and it's not fun. On top of that, I need to do something to earn a living once this is all wrapped up.

So like many a foolish person, I thought perhaps I could explore some writing. Having a short piece actually published in a trade magazine only encouraged me. But of course, cold hard reality intrudes - it's very time consuming and emotionally draining to close a business and my dreams have gone on hold.

And then yesterday, I received a phone call from the editor of the trade magazine, who did not know about the business closing. He was asking me to be guest editor for an issue, with a column, an interview done by me and other editorial input. Of course, the fact that my business is closing makes it necessary to retract the offer - they want someone actively in the business.
