the Pretenders

I know why no one is posting this close to Christmas, it's because they're pretending they have a life other than this forum or that they're too busy writing for pay -Ha!

But I have been busy and here is my latest idiocy:

LETTUCE SPRAY

Let us pray, for those who spray

they see a bug and get carried away

The poisoned bug, on the ground he lies

and is eaten by a robin, which soon dies

The residue seeps into the ground,

and poisons water all around

What about he butterflies, and bees?

Who will pollinate our flowers and trees?

Why should we care about ethics and nature,

We've killed the creepy, crawley creature.

John is so funny. Everytime I click on to this site he has made some wise crack. I haven't had time because I am taking care of 3 elderly relatives. I don't know whether to pray or to spray!!!

Eddie you inspired me to get up and swat that fly that's been buzzing my window for the last hour or so. Thanks!

Bailey White (a good Southern writer you should know) once had a commentary on NPR about a couple she knew with a perfect rose garden. They sprayed and sprayed until there was never the sound of a buzzing insect in that garden, and the roses bloomed beyond all expectations. But the next sound to disappear from the garden was the wife's voice, as she succumbed to cancer.

And the roses bloomed on in splended solitude...

This forum has been quiet lately, and somewhat more serious in tone. Perhaps it's the oncoming winter, but I myself have felt less inspired to write lately. Of course, leave it to me to get it all bass ackwards, as this is the time of year when I should be curled up in front of the fire, penning magnificent words about my garden and the land. Maybe come January?

    V.

Veronicastum, You made me laugh out loud, not a hard thing to do since I go around laughing out loud anyhow - "I just think funny stuff " as Arthur said. That constant preventative spraying to keep from ever having a problem is what I have against rose growers. Speaking of cancer and such, years ago on a nursery tour we went to an orchard where the couple said they used to have their spraying done by crop dusters . I noticed their only son was deformed and retarded. Not saying there was a definite connection, just that there was suspicion. And now, a good friend of mine who ran a nursery and stood every day across the aisle from all the chemicals is dying from cancer and may not live past Christmas. I once filled in for him so he could attend his son's graduation and I got so sick I missed two days work. Was it the chemicals? What else could it have been? I wrote a tribute for my good friend and posted it on my web site and would be honored if anyone would take a moment to read it.

"Some of us neither pray nor spray."

Some of us spray .. and let others pray.

    Good Day ...

    You, too.

(I'm actually away from my garden right now, staying at a beach cabin with friends. Next week, we're going to have a rousing -- fiery -- Winter Solstice celebration on another beach.)

    HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Eddie, I always thought my poetry had roman catholic rythyms, hoping I was inspiration...
Live Oak Lady, I've been meaning to ask...did your oak weather this last season?

As far as Roman Catholic rythyms go, I thought it took two to tango...Or is it one to solo? Can't remember anything in this drunken stupor. I drink to hide my sorrow. My friend took six Viagra tablets and it killed him. Worst thing was they couldn't close the lid to the casket.
