Great pictures. Here's what I would do: 1. Rake up the fallen leaves. I'm talking about all the brown leaves as well as the green ones. Those are holding back the spread of your St Aug and may be contributing to the brown grass there. St Aug seems to be sensitive to airflow and the leaves block it off. You'll get bushels of leaves out of there. If after 3 weeks you see the brown areas spreading, get some ordinary corn meal or cracked corn and scatter that at 20 pounds per 1,000 square feet. The brown area spreading would confirm that it is a fungus and needs to be stopped. Corn meal worked for me every time I tried it. If you have already used a chemical fungicide, then the corn meal won't work, but if you have not, then try it. 2. If you are not picky about spraying a herbicide, get some of this and spot spray the areas that have dichondra (die KON druh) and oxalis (see your 3rd pic for dichondra and 5th for oxalis). Remember it is the black bottle of Spectracide with the purple label. I can find it at Wal-Mart and the box stores. Both of those plants, puny as they are, will knock out St Aug. You don't need to saturate the soil. Just mist the leaves of the weeds. You might need to repeat but give it 2 weeks before you make that decision. Your soybean meal will help. I'm a little afraid of your app rate. It's going to start to stink on you soon enough. It'll last 2-3 weeks like that.

Pictures are usually needed but I think you have identified the culprit - fungal disease. I live in San Antonio, TX. I believe we have a similar issue with chemical fungicides. They must be applied when the temperature is not going to be above 80 degrees and no rain or irrigation for 7 days. Well, when is that??? January 3rd??? I had given up on finding a solution when I heard a guy on the radio suggest using ordinary corn meal on plants with fungal disease. I tried it on a rose plant and it was cured in a week. Nobody was more surprised than I was. Next week I listened to that radio guy for 3 hours. That day I went out and bought 50 pounds of corn meal at my local feed store. The rest is history. Since then I have never been afraid of a fungal disease. I have watched my garden carefully and have even identified the cause of my fungal disease issues. It is my wife leaving garden clippings on the lawn for a few days. Dew forms and the normal air flow is choked off by the pile of clippings. She had one favorite place to put the clippings so I just pretreated it with corn meal every spring. Now I have her putting them in the compost pile or on the concrete until they can be disposed of. The application rate to get rid of disease is 20 pounds per 1,000 square feet. You should apply to the entire lawn so you don't end up with green spots where you applied it. Corn meal is an organic fertilizer, too. Having said that and rereading your original message, if you have already used a fungicide, then corn meal may not work. Corn meal relies on the fungal health of the soil. If you have sprayed a fungicide then you have no fungal health left. You might want to apply compost first. Give the compost 2 weeks to work and then use corn meal. Then give the corn meal 3 full weeks to work. I would reapply after 3 weeks whether you have seen progress or not. The second app at the third week will thrive on the back of the first dose and should supercharge the antifungal effect. Most people wonder how corn meal works to kill fungus. The original TAMU work showed that corn meal contributes to the growth of the Trichoderma fungus. Trichoderma is a naturally occurring, predatory fungus that feeds on the cellular structure of other fungi. Normal soil has Trichoderma but not in high populations. Corn meal is decomposed by another fungus that multiplies the population of Trichoderma.

I would like to tune up what your extension service agent told you. IF YOU ARE ONLY GOING TO FERTILIZE ONCE PER YEAR, then Thanksgiving is the time. You will probably be happier fertilizing 3x per year as follows: once on Memorial Day, once on Labor Day, and once on Thanksgiving. In addition if you are going to fertilize, use a fertilizer. If you want to kill weeds, use a separate herbicide product for that. Preferably use a liquid that allows you to spot spray individual weeds. But don't use a weed n feed product. The results from those products are rarely what you were expecting them to be.

I am of the opinion that is a hilo beauty. Not an alocasia but caladium or xanthosoma depending on the time of year that a botanist gets ahold of it. Seeing as one has not ever bloomed to anyones knowledge. Also it is not uncommon for a plant to throw off a leaf with some variegation. I had a X. lime zinger that had one leaf half white. Never did it again. Oh well!!!
