Killing clover without killing caterpillars

I am a butterfly gardener so therefore I can't use pesticides or weed killers since some of my caterpillars feed on passionvine (Suberosa, which is more of a groundcover) that grows where in an area where we are having lots of clover come up. I have tried baking soda in an area where there is not passionvine and it worked well but I am afraid to put it where the passionvine is. Will it kill everything it touches and how long would I have to wait to transplant more of the passionvine in the area where the baking soda killed the clover?
