Okay guys. I know the Bermuda looks terrible but I've just started the regimen. Thank you so much for all the help. I just recently received my soil test and started to really get into and face the cold hard facts that my grass is in bad shape so, I'm on the wagon now, the lawn wagon. I understand that dallisgrass is hard to kill. I just started doing the 36-0-0 fertilizer with Milorganite. I'm thinking of getting the alfalfa pellets next week for it. Dchall I guess I'm putting the cart before the horse thinking overrun. I'm just glad I've found this site for the help you're all giving me. I've been getting a better understanding of how this Bermuda works from reading these threads. I don't have a reel mower but bought a new blade. I hope to one day be able to show you before and after pics of my yard. Let me know if you recommend anything else outside of what I just named to apply to my lawn. I'm open for suggestions. This soil test says to do these applications monthly. I wonder if I could do it every 2 weeks until it looks better. What say you? 36-0-0 every 2-3 weeks?

I believe the last photo is woolly thyme. Groundcover, yes. Weed, depends on the person and their perspective, I suppose. The top picture looks exactly like my St Augustine lawn, so I'd second that appraisal.

Nutsedge is what ya got . 'Ortho nutsedge killer' at Home depot , and it may need repeat sprays each year. If they don't have that particular Ortho product at your home depot , you can order it on-line and have it delivered to your store for free. Get the one with the hose end sprayer . Your probably going to have to re-seed again in the fall........depending on where you live, make sure you seed at least 6 weeks before the first average frost date.

Tony, what is the name of the pre-emergent you used? Is it a weed & feed fertilizer type? Since you said that that you applied two rounds of pre- emergent, I am of the humble opinion that either it was applied incorrectly or the product you applied did not work at all. I use a pre-emergent called "Prodiamine WSG65" with excellent results. WSG stands for water soluble granules. It is a very effective product and the efficacy lasts for up to 6 months. So if this product is applied in early May, you get the protection until November - by the time the window for crab grass seed / or any seed germination is past. Crab grass seeds can be viable for up to seven years and will lie dormant until the right conditions for germination arrive. If you don't keep up with the timely pre-emergent application, they are certain to come back. Apart from pre-emergent application, mowing high & letting the grass clippings back into the lawn, fertilizing the grass as needed etc. will also help. The whole idea is to not provide the favorable conditions for weed seed germination. Hope this info helps. I have fought this battle and won. I have very few weeds in my one acre lawn.
