what type of turf?

Hi. My question for Dr. Rogers and others who may be able to help. I have a large backyard -- sloped -- that is currently nothing but weeds, rock and clay soil. I'd like to install a small amount of lawn, just enough for a game of bocci (after we do some necessary terracing to create a flat area).

Because I am in Southern California, I'd like the lawn to be as unthirsty as possible -- I am very sensitve to our limited water resources. I'd like to find a type of grass or turf that will do well in this area with a minimum amount of water (and I will also limit the scope of the lawn to conserve water). The rest of the backyard will eventually be completed with dg paths, a patio "room", native and mediterranean plants and a large area of xeriscaping.

I hear that Bermuda is incredibly invasive and am reluctant to struggle with it. Any suggestions as to want types of turf I should look into? I am right in Los Angeles.

Thanks!!
