Replace centerpide with?

Hi, I live in NC in a very sandy part of the coastal plain, about 60 miles inland from the ocean. We would like to grow something in our backyard besides centerpide which is our lawn in front. I like green in the winter! Any suggestions? I have planted one corner, northeast, in clover which has taken off. It didn't take off in the other places. Thanks for any suggestions you can make. The grass that will give you green in the winter and do best in the summer with the heat is tall fescue. The keys: buy a turf type variety and seed it in three different directions when establishing at a rate of 9 lbs/1000 square foot.
